5/16/08 - Wildflowers on the Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a jewel that the people of Roanoke seem to have forgotten. Very few of the people I know in this area ever get up to the Parkway and enjoy the beauty of the area. I spent a few hours driving and walking the Parkway to shoot some more wildflowers, as they start to bloom and peak. Here are some examples of my images.

The images above are Wild Geranium. I photographed these on the Blue Ridge Parkway, south of Roanoke.

The image above is a Rough Fruited Cinquefoil. The leaves differentiate this flower from the Canadian Cinquefoil, also in this area.

The wildflower above is a Golden Alexander. This wildflower is rather abundant on the Parkway.

Above is a Common Buttercup. It has a very glossy appearance that is produces by a special layer of cells under the surface cells of the flower. Located around milepost 156 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Above is a Dogwood Bloom. The Virginia State Tree, Dogwoods are in bloom on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Daisy Fleabane. Very easy to find on the Parkway

Above is Pinxter Flower. This one is located on the Parkway at around milepost 142.
